Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Calcutta Medical College and Hospital has opened a dedicated Pediatric Hepatology unit to treat liver and related gastrointestinal diseases in children. Hospital sources confirmed that two departments — Pediatrics and Gastroenterology — have jointly initiated the facility, where doctors will remain available for treatment. This unit aims to handle the increasing number of children arriving with liver-related conditions, with necessary diagnostic tools and infrastructure in place.
According to Principal Dr. Indranil Biswas, the unit is being supervised by Professor Dr. Kalpana Dutta from the Pediatrics Department, Professor Dr. Kalidas Biswas from the Gastroenterology Department, and Associate Professor Dr. Trombyak Samanta. The new Pediatric Hepatology department will function within the combined framework of the two existing departments, offering treatment and diagnosis specifically for pediatric liver diseases.
Hospital authorities stated that although SSKM Hospital already has a department for liver-related diseases in children, Calcutta Medical College has recently seen a rise in such patients. In response to this growing need, a separate unit has been set up within the hospital to ensure focused care. The unit includes availability of medical specialists along with diagnostic equipment to support treatment of complex liver conditions in children.
